Walking into the room shortly before Justin Timberlake took our cramped stage, I overheard someone on his team wondering aloud if this was to be the most densely populated Tiny Desk concert in history — which is to say, the most musicians we’ve ever fit in a single frame. It’s not, but we don’t often find a way to cram in this many human beings (15 in all) and this much gear.

Timberlake has never been one to give partial effort, but this is a production befitting the occasion: namely, a set timed to drop concurrently with the release of his new album, Everything I Thought It Was. Eschewing the rootsier feel of its predecessor, 2018’s Man of the Woods, the new record is a throwback, an epic and a blowout — and so’s this lavish set, which scales the Timberlake experience down to 25 minutes of maximalist celebration and, when the moment calls for it, chiller vibes.

Backed by his band The Tennessee Kids, Timberlake’s Tiny Desk debut leans heavily on his early solo catalog, as he kicks it off with two songs from 2002’s classic Justified and weaves in three more from 2006’s magnificent FutureSex/LoveSounds — including a set-closing “SexyBack,” which finds the singer trotting out a megaphone in a truly meme-worthy moment.

By the way, in case you’re wondering, the all-time record for musicians behind the Tiny Desk is a whopping 23, a feat pulled off by the fantastic Mucca Pazza in 2015. But Timberlake and company rival that classic performance’s energy — in both cases, the real triumph lies not in the Tetris of it all, but in the way that many people still find ways to move, buoyantly and as one mighty organism.

Dec. 3, 2019 | Stephen Thompson — “I heard a big thing on NPR about the shrinking of the attention span and how now, with pop songs, everything has like six seconds before you gotta change it, because the kids swipe over,” Sheryl Crow tells the crowd early in her Tiny Desk Fest concert. “I’m just gonna tell you right now: We’re dinosaurs. … And while the kids are all writing fast food — which is super-cool ’cause it tastes great, super-filling — we’re sort of still writing salmon. We’re the songwriters that are here to tax your attention span.”

Twenty-five years ago this fall, Crow was in the midst of a massive career breakthrough: Her inescapable hit “All I Wanna Do” was entrenched in the Top 5 — it would later win the Grammy for Record of the Year — and her 1993 debut album, Tuesday Night Music Club, was well on its way to selling more than 7 million copies in the U.S. alone. The years since have been similarly kind. A heavily decorated but eternally approachable star, Crow has released 11 albums and won nine Grammys en route to her latest, a duets collection called Threads.

For NPR’s Tiny Desk Fest, Crow and her crack band of rock-and-roll lifers performed a 35-minute set (including two unexpected encores) that featured new material from Threads and a handful of hits that have morphed over the years into pop standards. From the easygoing opening strains of “All I Wanna Do” to the rousing final notes of “If It Makes You Happy,” we were in some of the surest hands in the business.

Sweet Child O’ Mine is from GNR smash debut Appetite For Destruction in 1987. The album topped the Billboard 200 and became the best-selling debut as well as the 11th best-selling album in the United States. With about 30 million copies sold worldwide, Appetite For Destruction is also one of the best-selling records ever and is viewed as one of the greatest albums of all time.

“Sweet Child o’ Mine” placed No.?37 on Guitar World’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitar Solos.” It also came in at number?198 on Rolling Stone’s The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Q magazine placed it at No.?6 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. On a 2004 Total Guitar magazine poll, the introduction’s famous riff was voted number-one riff of all-time by the readers of the magazine. It was also in Rolling Stone’s 40 Greatest Songs that Changed the World. It places No.?7 in VH1’s “100 Greatest Songs of the ’80s.

There must have been 8 – 9 wardrobe changes last night the Taylor Swift concert in Tampa. It was Halloween, but I think fans were shocked when she emerged onstage as Olaf … the big, lovable snowman from “Frozen.” Her dancers were reindeers.
“I don’t know if you noticed but we have a ’Frozen’ theme going on here,” Swift said. “If only Idina Menzel were here.”
And guess, what? That sly fox brought out Idina Menzel! THE Idina Menzel of “Let It Go” fame. Here is a clip of their duet. ?

Alphaville’s ‘Little America’ DVD reformatted to HD, wide screen. Best watched in 720p. An audio version of this is still available worldwide under the name ‘Stark Naked and Absolutely Live’. The DVD was recorded in July of 1999 and released in 2,000. It contains live performances of everything – from their big hits to fan favorites.
Alphaville kept playing until the folks running the venue told Alphaville they had to shut it down. Unfortunately, no video can do a live concert justice — certainly not this one. But enjoy the best you can! Unfortunately, the ‘Little America’ DVD is not in print at this time. It was a very limited offer, but you can still get the magnificent audio version! Bastille are an English rock band formed in London in 2010. They began as a solo project by singer-songwriter Dan Smith, who later decided to form a band. The four-piece is completed by Chris Wood, William Farquarson and Kyle Simmons. The name of the band derives from Bastille Day – an event celebrated on Smith’s birthday, 14 July.

In December 2010, EMI Music announced that they had offered Bastille a record contract with Virgin Records. Their debut single, “Overjoyed” was subsequently released in April 2012. Their first studio album, titled Bad Blood, was released in March 2013 and debuted atop the UK Albums Chart. The band was nominated for four Brit Awards at the 2014 ceremony, including for British Breakthrough Act, British Group, British Single of the Year and British Album of the Year, winning for British Breakthrough Act. As of February 2014, Bastille have sold over 2.07 million records in the UK alone.

Bastille front man, Dan Smith has revealed that they wish to release a new album as soon as possible but are being delayed due to touring schedules. Dan Smith has also said that the new album will be more guitar heavy, electronic and perhaps R&B influenced.

It has been Rylan’s dream to see Taylor Swift in concert for the past three years! When we first learned that Taylor’ 1989 World Tour was stopping in Dallas, our mom secretly spent hours on the phone trying to buy Rylan tickets for her Christmas gift.

During “Take Me or Leave Me” fan duet segment, a fearless random kid, Evan, ran up to Idina Menzel, and wanted to sing with her. Idina nor the audience expected this hilarious and charming outcome.
